Horticulture NVQ Level 1
Horticulture includes the propagation and maintenance of plants and the management of grass, paths and structures. The essentials of safe working practice underpin all of these skills. An NVQ at Level 1 is quite basic and suitable for somebody with no previous experience. It also relates mainly to work roles with a fair degree of supervision.
Qualification Structure for NVQ Level 1
The candidate must achieve all of the three mandatory units plus three optional units.
Mandatory Units
- Unit CU1 Maintain safe and effective working practices
Unit CU61 Assist with planting and establishing plants
Unit CU62 Assist with maintaining plants
Optional Units
- Unit CU8 Transport supplies of physical resources within the work area
- Unit CU15 Assist with the maintenance of grass surfaces
- Unit CU16 Assist with maintaining structures and surfaces
- Unit CU17 Assist with the maintenance of equipment
- Unit CU63 Assist with the vegetative propagation of plants
- Unit CU64 Assist with the propagation of plants from seeds
Availability and Prior Knowledge Requirements of the Level 1 NVQ in horticulture
This is a basic NVQ and is suitable for somebody with no previous experience. It is available through volunteering with CVNI and for other groups by arrangement. Completion time is typically 6 months to a year working on 1 day per week.
