Help us grow trees!

Become a volunteer and learn all the tricks to get our acorns (and other fruits) to grow into oaks (and all other native trees and shrubs).

Hazelnut harvest in September 2003In the tree nursery, our aim is to grow local provenance trees grown in the nursery from seeds collected by volunteers from the remaining native woodlands in Northern Ireland. Those trees that we cannot grow ourselves are sourced from other suitable UK provenances.

We stock different sizes of trees from seedlings (20cm tall) to well-developed 'feathers' of 2m or more. Other sizes and species can be ordered by request.

In addition to native trees and shrubs, we stock some long-established non-native trees and all the accessories you will need to help your young trees establish themselves after you have planted them, including:

  • mulch mats
  • stakes and ties
  • tree shelters and guards

Established in 1985 within the walled garden on the Clandeboye Estate, Bangor, Co. Down, our tree nursery sells over 200,000 trees a year. The proceeds from these sales help to support other work by Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland.
